Dark Night of The Soul

My life changed drastically 8 years ago in 2012.

I had just finished my junior year at Indiana State University (ISU) while going through a ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ experience. The whole year I had been feeling hopeless, depressed, and hardly ever wanted to get out of bed.

I didn’t feel like I knew who I was anymore or the purpose of my life. I felt like what was the point in living and there were times I believed I was better off dead.

Luckily, I was recommended to go to counseling. Because of that, I began a slow but steady progression into a better mental state.

During the summer that year I stayed in Terre Haute, IN, the city the college is located in and worked while living in my first apartment.

Every summer in Indianapolis, IN there’s an event called The Black Expo (IBE) where hundreds of black owned businesses and more come together at the Indiana Convention Center to sell products, services, and more.

I have gone pretty much every year throughout my life, but at that time I hadn’t gone in years.

For some reason, that summer I had the sudden urge that I needed to attend IBE.

Something in me told me that I must go and I thought about going every day.

Even though I was working, I didn’t have the money to attend and didn’t have a way there so I figured going was a bust.

However, a week or two prior to the IBE, I received an email from the school asking if anyone would like to volunteer at their booth for the event. This was the first time I’d ever received any type of message asking to volunteer there in my two years of attending ISU.

Of course I accepted, but I still didn’t have a ride. Coincidentally, I had recently befriended a girl who also was volunteering and she asked me if I wanted to ride with her, so I said yes.

The Meeting

After I finished volunteering at the ISU booth at the expo, a close friend and I began walking around to see what we wanted to buy and eat. One of the best things about the expo is that they have unique items that you may only have the chance to get while you’re there.

As we’re walking around, two young men asked my friend and I if we wanted to try some vegan ice cream.

One of the men had piercing brown eyes and when I looked into them, I felt like I was looking into his soul. It was an instant connection and we couldn’t stop looking or smiling at each other (he was fine as hell too and the feelings were mutual!).

As my friend and I got to know them, we found out they were fraternal twins and were deep into spirituality.

The one who I had a connection with (I’ll call him Moses) I ended up talking to for quite a while and he put me on to a whole new world: he was on some Aladdin type sh*t.

He introduced me to astrology, which is the study of the celestial bodies and their impact on our lives. For more information on how astrology works, check out my brief introduction to astrology in my article “AS ABOVE, SO BELOW”.

He also discussed with me reincarnation. From him I learned that we never truly die as we are a soul that lives on forever.

The more I talked to him the more I learned so much about myself and what was missing in my life.

Even more important, I realized I had attracted this meeting into my life.

You Get What you Desire

The Law of Attraction is considered a New Age phenomena, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Law of Attraction has been around since the beginning of time. It’s essentially a spiritual law that states that we attract to us whatever our focus is on or whatever it is we desire.

Have you noticed that whenever you concentrate on something with all your heart, what it is you’re concentrating on comes to fruition, somehow and someway?

For instance, say you really want to get a new job as a fashion stylist. It’s all you’re thinking about and you’re determined to find a job doing just that.

As you’re talking to a friend about it, she tells you she knows someone who is looking for a stylist at a new boutique she’s just opened. You meet with her and she gives you a job on the spot.

Congratulations! You’ve just demonstrated the workings of the Law of Attraction.

For the Law of Attraction to work, you must have a clear focus and a strong emotional pull to what it is you desire.

Prior to going to the Black Expo, I had a strong feeling that there was more to life than I was being offered.

I knew in my heart and soul that I wanted more out of life and I remember going to the library searching for books or anything that I felt would help me.

Because of my powerful desire to get more out of life, my spirit knew that going to the IBE was what I needed and I attracted that experience and meeting into my life.

By connecting with Moses, I gained the knowledge and tools I needed to embark on my spiritual journey.

At the time I didn’t even know what the Law of Attraction was, but as I continued to learn more about the “New Age” movement and spirituality, I understood the power of my thoughts and how I can attract whatever it is into my life that I desire.

Everyone has experienced the Law of Attraction even if they don’t know or understand it.

Since learning about it, I have attracted amazing situations and people into my life, which has been more fulfilling because of it.

On the other hand, I’ve brought into my life chaos and drama that could have easily been avoided.

The key to using the Law of Attraction properly is having a clear focus and a desire to bring about whatever it is you want.

In future posts I will give more information regarding this life changing technique and how you can use it to better all aspects of your life.

What are your experiences with the Law of Attraction? Let me know in the comments.
